As I said last time, I am branching out into landscape this year. This brightly lit autumn pathway is my first challenge. I think this is iteration 5 or 6. When I took the reference photo on Thanksgiving, I was immediately drawn to the bright yellow trees and the interesting spaces the “sky holes” made. As happens though, on my first paint through, I lost the forest for the trees and wound up with a nice painting that was all about trees and a path. The next few paint throughs had their strengths and weaknesses.
I actually tried to find another painting to work on – but just couldn’t land on anything that inspired me as much as those sky holes. So, here we go, I began again. This time I began without a drawing and am making use of negative painting techniques. We’ll see where it ends up!
