The last few months I have spent time going through photos and sketching various blooms to fill a sketchbook. Often at the end of a long day, it was relaxing and peaceful to sit down and unwind by modeling these delicate forms.
The drawings are all done on double page spreads as shown. There are pages between the spreads so that no drawing backs onto another. The sketchbook is an Moleskine cahier pocket journal.
The first drawing is in graphite, the second in colored pencil, and the rest are done in pen and ink. The changes in color that appear above are due to issues with my scanner. The pages are cream-colored and the ink is black.
This is a personal book to me. Many of the flowers in it are from my front garden. There are a few from my vacation in California last summer. The rest are from bouquets that were given to me. As well, these are sketches and not finished drawings, they feel very personal and unguarded.
